Congratulations to our U14's who last night beat Lewisham Borough 5-1 in the final of the KYL Cup played at Glebe FC. Pictured above holding the trophy is U14 manager Martin Driscoll alongside club Chair Frank May and Welfare Officer Katherine Woods.

Cray Valley U14 prepare to collect their winners medals

The young Millers started brightly and after 7 minutes Rhys Davies saw his effort ruled out for offside however the same player did give Cray the lead in the 19th minute. Two minutes later though the Boro were level through an unfortunate own goal. The Boro were the better team after equalising, the Cray keeper Sonny Godbolt made an excellent block and a glorious chance was squandered just before the interval, the shot from a yard out somehow going over the top. Half Time 1-1

Second half and with the advantage of the slope Rhys put Cray back in front, chasing a ball over the top and out sprinting the defence to slot home. Rhys then completed his hat trick on 54 minutes. Shortly after captain Joshua Woods saw his free kick from 30 yards out, float in and deceive everyone including their keeper to make it four. With four minutes of the 70 remaining Frankie Driscoll got a deft touch with his head to a looping cross to complete the scoring. Full Time: 5-1

The Boro will feel the final scoreline was slightly unfair on them and they certainly contributed to a great game of football enjoyed by good support from both sides. Well done Cray, fully deserved winners on the night. Finally thank you to the KYL and Glebe FC for hosting.
