Welcome Dan Bowry

Cray Valley (PM) extend a warm welcome to Dan Bowry who hs joined the Millers - making his debut yesterday at Princes Park against Dartford and helping to keep a clean sheet with the game finishing goalless.

The 26-year-old defender joins us from St Albans City of the National League South. He signed for the Saints in the summer of 2023 making 48 appearances during his time at Clarence Park. A youth player with Charlton Athletic from the age of 16, he was released at the end of the 2018/19 season after loan spells at Kingstonian and Hampton and Richmond Borough. He joined Cheltenham Town and underwent loan spells at Bath City and Wealdstone. In season 2021/22 he joined Kings Lynn making over 20 appearances followed by a similar number the following season at Worthing.

Dan's father Bobby was a professional footballer who played for Crystal Palace, Millwall and Colchester United among other clubs. His paternal grandparents were born in the Caribbean
allowing Dan the honour of representing the Antigua and Barbuda national football team on numerous occasions.

Richard J Green our matchday announcer and programme contributor caught up with Dan after Saturday's game at Dartford and writes....

We also saw a new addition to our squad make his debut at Dartford. Centre back Dan Bowry joined us from National League South outfit St Albans City last week, and Dan had a few words to say to me on Saturday. “I've been in contact with Steve for a couple of weeks as I haven't really been in the team at St Albans. It was something I was definitely interested in, but I was just kind of waiting for the right time for me and for Steve - that’s how it came along”, he told me. “I was brought up in Croydon – ten minutes from Palace’s ground. I was on Charlton’s books until I joined Kingstonian for my first loan spell at the age of 18. Apart from that, I've been around the National League and National League South for most of my career. For me, this move fits in with my life for the minute – I’m coaching at Charlton so it suits location wise, and I still wanna enjoy my football. Even though I’m a defender, I’ve got a lot of attributes that can affect the game going forward as well – I played right full back and right wing back for about ten games last year and got a few assists. I feel I’m most suited to playing in a three at the back, but I’m just as comfortable playing in a four”.
Of his record of scoring just twice in over 130 senior appearances, the Antigua and Barbuda international admits “I’m not much of a goal scorer to be honest – most of the teams I’ve played for have taken short corners normally, so I haven’t had many opportunities to score, but hopefully I can add a few here.”
