Sixty seconds with ... Ryan Flack

David Carter26 Apr 2020 - 10:40

Today we speak to attacking midfielder Ryan Flack

Name: Ryan Flack

Best Moment in Football:

My senior football debut for Welling United when I was 17. I managed to score 2 goals that evening after coming on in the 70th minute but we unfortunately lost 4-2. However, it will be a moment I will never forget.

And Worst:

When we lost 3-2 to Hollands and Blair last season so close to the end of the season. We had worked so hard to get within touching distance of Corinthian and with a win we would go above them with so few games left to play. It felt like we had thrown it all away and that we would not win the league but with some luck they lost a game the week or two after and we managed to make up for our mistake.

Funniest thing seen on a football pitch:

Cal Willock scored this goal last season where he tripped over as he kicked the ball, and somehow managed to end up upside down in the net. The photographer that day got some brilliant action shots which were a good laugh in the group chat the following week.

Who wouldn’t you want to be in lockdown with:

Josh James. He’s always talking about boring things like pressure treated wood and the food he eats stinks.

What 3 people would you like to be in lockdown with:

Gino D'acampo as I think he would be a great laugh and a brilliant chef. Michael Owen as he is my childhood hero, would love to talk football with him and learn anything I could. Finally, Elon Musk as there would be a lot I could learn and maybe create some tech that could help improve my house.

What have you been doing during lockdown?

I have recently bought a house with my girlfriend so we have spent a lot of time decorating and renovating so we have had a lot to keep us busy. I have also been going into work now and then as my school is still open for key workers children and to deliver food to other schools with vulnerable pupils.

Points Per Game or Null & Void:

Points Per Game all day. We worked so hard in every game we played to get ourselves into a position challenging for the title so it was a bit gutting to find out that the season was void and it counted for nothing.

Best Ground Played At:

Wembley Stadium! It was an amazing experience. A perfect pitch, amazing facilities and all our family and friends there to support us which made for a pretty unforgettable day.

Best ground to watch a match:

The Valley. I was a Charlton season ticket holder for 7 years and experienced some amazing games with my Dad and Grandad, which makes it particularly special for me.

Best Goal Scored:

The best goal I scored was probably last season at home against Lordswood in the cup. Babs made a fantastic run down the wing from the edge of our box and put in a brilliant cross which Gavin flicked it on. I took a touch and curled the ball into the top corner from just outside the box.

Best Player You’ve Played Against:

Ravel Morrison. He was playing for West Ham at the time and it was a pre-season friendly. Everything he did that day was class, he was so talented and you could see that everything he did was so easy for him.

Best Player You’ve Played With:

Jamie Day. I played with him at Welling when he was player-manager and briefly at Cray before he went off to manage again. He was always very composed and technical but always pushed me to always try and get the best out of me and make me a better player.

Best Player Ever!

In my opinion, Messi is the best player ever. He is the complete player, and he backs it all up with an unbelievable scoring and assist record.

Any Other Sports You Are Good At?

I would like to think that I am pretty good at a variety of sports but the main ones being Basketball, Tennis and Badminton.

What’s Your Hidden Talent?

Apparently Bowling, as I won last time we went as a team.

Is There Anything Else You Want To Tell Us?

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Look forward to seeing you all when we return and hopefully continue where we left off.

Thank you Ryan.
