The Millers embark on their second pre-season friendly against last season’s Kent Senior Trophy winners Punjab United. As manager Steve McKimm said in his Glebe post match interview after the 3-1 victory the first three games are about the players getting minutes. He will look to mix it up during those first three games as they work towards a level of fitness at the same time looking to eradicate the bad bits and build on the good. Therefore it is likely that all the squad, assuming fit, will feature along with a couple of trialists and young players from our U18 Isthmian league side.
SCEFL Premier side Punjab United managed by Jugjit 'Chipie' Sian will be kicking off their league campaign on the 29th July, a full two weeks ahead of the Millers opening league game on the 12th August. As such they are slightly ahead on their pre season and have already played two games. The first at home to National League Ebbsfleet Town, where they went down 0-6 and last Friday away at newly promoted fellow Isthmian South East side Erith & Belvedere, suffering a narrow 1-2 defeat.
Punjab have a number of players with connections to past Millers teams, namely Chris Edwards, Lea Dawson, Sam Bailey, Tunde Aderonmu and Michael Hagan, all of whom have featured in pre season. The sides have met twice competitively in our promotion winning SCEFL season in 2018/19 drawing 4-4 at home and the Millers winning away in April 2019 2-0 with goals from Gavin Tomlin and Anthony Edgar.
