Valley survived an early scare to hit five and end a disappointing run of six games without a win against a bewildered Heath side stung by the dismissal of goalkeeper Billy Collings shortly after half time.
The afternoon could well have seen a different outcome had Valley goalkeeper Chris Lewington not been on his mettle with just 45 seconds on the clock – pulling off a superb stop to deny Nabeel Ghannam as the Heath striker found himself in space 18 yards from goal.
A lively start from the visitors caused early consternation in the Valley defence, before Barney Williams broke down the right and fired across the six yard box at the other end – with not a Miller in sight, thoughts turned to recent Valley woes in front of goal.
Thoughts indeed exacerbated by Cem Tumkaya’s far post header from Dan Bennett’s 21st minute corner rebounding from Collings’ crossbar.
And when Lewington was again called into action - making another fine save from a header following a corner on the Heath left - it seemed as though we were in for a game of fluctuating fortunes between two mid-table sides.
Shortly after the half hour the deadlock was broken however - Tom Chambers firing his fourth goal of the season after Adam Coombes (looking suspiciously offside on the right) had a fierce shot pushed out by Collings.
Bennett then shot narrowly wide from 25 yards following a Hassan Ibrahiym corner, as Valley forced the pace approaching the half time whistle.
Coombes extended the lead shortly after the break – converting a through ball from Kershany Samuels after a move started by Williams on the right.
Then came the dismissal of Collings – shown red by Referee Samuel Olhausen for handling outside his area in the wake of an oncoming Valley attack.
With captain and defender Tom Cadman donning the goalkeeper’s yellow jersey, the game took on a different tone – Valley looking to put the game to bed, while the visitors took on more of a damage limitation approach – but within five minutes the points were all but sealed.
After clearly being fouled in midfield, Ibrahiym retained possession to play in Bennett on the edge of the Haywards Heath penalty area. After a “Messi”esque dribble across the Bluebells box, Bennett squared the ball to Chambers who fired home his second of the game.
As the visitors became increasingly irritated by some of Referee Olhausen’s decisions, manager Martyn Dynan was dismissed from the touchline after Assistant Referee Marcus Tingey relayed some unsavoury comments to the man with the whistle.
Coombes made it 4-0 twenty minutes from time – converting Bennett’s cross along the six yard line – before the woodwork again denied Valley as Bennett headed a far post cross from Chambers against the bar.
Substitute Ade Adeyemo was next to hit the frame of the goal – striking the inside of the post following a through ball by Samuels – before Tumkaya completed the scoring 8 minutes from the final whistle – heading home Bennett’s corner.
