The fireworks start early at Reachfields on Saturday as Valley make the trip to the northern terminus of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway – the Clubs having agreed to kick-off at 2pm to save on floodlight costs.
Under manager Steve Watt, “The Canons” have experienced mixed fortunes of late – a comprehensive 3-0 disposal of early season pace setters Beckenham Town being followed by a creditable 1-1 draw against Ashford United – Nuts & Bolts gloveman Jacob Russell earning plaudits for a “man of the match” display to earn the visitors a point.
Last Saturday’s 6-1 drubbing against new leaders Chatham Town however left manager Watt feeling “a bit let down by the players” as his defence conceded more goals in 90 minutes than they had in their previous eight league games !
Scotsman Watt – now in his third spell at the Club after a brief sojourn at VCD Athletic last season – admitted that “there are a lot of players who have a point to prove after that”, and with Tuesday night’s game against Sheppey United falling foul to the weather, it falls upon Kevin Watson’s men to repel any backlash.
Valley will be looking to extend their winning run - and inflict The Canons first home defeat of the season - without defender Finn O’Mara – the loanee from Hastings United serving the first of a two match ban after his red card against Three Bridges last week.
