BIG MATCH PREVIEW
CRAY VALLEY (PM) v CORINTHIAN
27th DEC 2022 – KICK OFF 1pm
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE – SOUTH EAST DIVISION
By Richard J Green

Bank Holiday Tuesday (or Boxing Day 2) sees Valley at home in Yuletide action for the first time since 2011, as they take on former SCEFL rivals Corinthian.
Under the management of long term “Corinthian” Michael Golding, the sides enjoyed many a close encounter over an eight season period before Valley’s promotion to the Isthmian League at the end of the 2018/19 season.
The Hoops subsequent elevation in 2021 culminated in a highly respectable eighth place finish, although Valley have had the better of meetings between the two Clubs recently – remaining unbeaten with two wins in three Isthmian League encounters.
The Fakenham based Corinthians have found the going somewhat more difficult this season, with only two wins coming from their 16 matches to date – their sole “scalp” on the road coming courtesy of a strike from Brandon Davey at Sevenoaks in mid-October.
Like Valley, The Hoops were last in action three weeks ago - securing a point at bottom of the table Faversham Town despite playing the last 20 minutes with 10 men after Harvey Smith saw red.
Tommy Osborne’s men meanwhile come into the game on the back of a nine game unbeaten run – firing them into promotion contention, five points behind leaders Ramsgate.
After a weather induced mid-winter “break”, both sides will therefore be keen to end 2022 in style – even if for totally different reasons as they look for vital points towards their respective end of season “goals”.
