Isthmian League football returns to The Artic Stadium on Tuesday as Valley entertain Sittingbourne in just their third home league match of a season entering its tenth week.
A plethora of Cup fixtures – due in no small way to the success enjoyed by Kevin Watson’s men – leave Valley already playing catch-up with some of the season’s leading promotion contenders.
Being held to successive draws at Beckenham Town and Lancing, despite dominating possession and chances, has been a source of frustration for players and management alike, as Valley now look to improve on a record of just six goals in their six preceding league matches. This in stark contrast to a record of 21 goals in seven Cup ties this season !!
The Brickies come to Eltham in seventh position in the league, on the back of an impressive 2-0 win at Haywards Heath Town on Saturday – goals from Mario Quiassaca and Donvieve Jones bookending an end to end tussle in which the hosts were reduced to ten men midway through the second half.
Despite leading the Club to their highest league position in nine years last season, Sittingbourne decided to dispense with the services of manager Darren Blackburn in the summer – opting to reappoint Nick Davis for a third spell at the Club after leading VCD Athletic last season.
In a much changed squad, the visitors midfield could involve two former Millers – Matthew Attenborough-Warren moving to the Kent Club in the summer, while Kieron McCann signed from Margate a couple of weeks ago.
In front of goal, Jones leads the way - on a peak run of form having netted in five of his last seven appearances.
