The Millers opening home league game sees manager Steve McKimm's new look side face Broadbridge Heath who make their first ever visit to the Artic Stadium.
What piece of history do the clubs Cray Valley (PM) and Broadbridge Heath have in common?
The answer is they were both formed in 1919. Cray Valley Paper Mills as we were originally known still proudly has the date on the club badge as does Broadbridge Heath. Heath were founded by ex-members of the armed forces who had returned from the Great War.
Heath nicknamed 'The Bears' are participating for the first time at step 4 having won promotion last season as champions of the Southern Combination League. They stated their campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Sheppey United. In the FA Cup they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Shearwater and in the Isthmian League Velocity Trophy went out on penalties to Chichester City after a 1-1 draw.
Manager Chris Simmons a former player has been in charge since January 2020 and has added a number of new faces to the squad during the summer but the nucleus of the team remain including captain Ryan Blackpool remain.
The Millers will be looking to build on their opening league win at Sittingbourne and the FA Cup success in Tuesday night's replay against Lordswood. Focus very much turns back now to the league with today's game and the short visit on Bank Holiday Monday to Phoenix Sports.
Newly promoted teams are always tough to play and it promises to be an interesting afternoon. Hope to see you there!
