Match Preview:
What piece of history do the clubs Cray Valley (PM) and Broadbridge Heath have in common?
The answer is they were both formed in 1919. Cray Valley Paper Mills as we were originally known still proudly has the date on the club badge as does Broadbridge Heath. Heath were founded by ex-members of the armed forces who had returned from the Great War.
Heath nicknamed 'The Bears' are participating for the first time at step 4 having won promotion last season as champions of the Southern Combination League. They are managed by Chris Simmons a former player who has been in charge since January 2020. They currently sit in 10th place on 41 points from 32 games. They are in a rich vain of form, unbeaten in their last 6 league games winning 5 of them, Littlehampton Town, Sevenoaks Town (twice home & away), Sittingborne and Phoenix Sports have all been beaten during this run. Goals have been shared amongst the team and their current joint top scorers are Tadley Bromage and Mason Doughty both on 9 followed by Louis Evans and Sam Lemon both on 6.
This will be the Millers second trip to Wickhurst Lane having visited in the FA Trophy back in September winning 2-0 with goals from Kyrell Lisbie and Freddie Parker. In the league game at the Artic Stadium at the end of August, the first ever meeting between the two clubs, honours were shared 2-2. Kyrell Lisbie first half opener was cancelled out by Jake Lindsey before Jensen Grant put the Millers ahead shortly after the interval. Kiki Oshilaja was harshly sent off on 75 minutes and in the 82nd minute Heath captain Ryan Blackpool equalised with a penalty.
Neither side are playing midweek so should be fresh going into the game. The Millers will be hoping to extend their 100% league away win record to 16 from 16 games. Heath will of course have other ideas, as always it promises to be compelling, hope to see you there.
