The Opposition

"The Becks v The Millers are normally feisty but entertaining affairs" wrote the match reporter in 2013 and this sentiment still applies today and could have been relevant to any of the previous twenty-two games between these two local rivals. A full previous results list is given below.

Beckenham Town having been rivals with the Millers in both the Kent League and the SCEFL at Step 5 for a number of years moved to the Combined Counties Premier Division South and were crown champions in their first season 2021/22 earning promotion to the Isthmian South East Division and a chance to resume hostilities with the Millers. The fixture at Eden Park Avenue last season in September ended with the points shared in a goalless draw, the return match in February ended in a 3-2 away win for the Becks.

Beckenham haven't enjoyed the best of starts to the season and are currently in 20th place with seven points from their opening 13 games. Just the two wins to date against Erith & Belvedere and East Grinstead and a draw away at Herne Bay. Their prolific goalscorer over the past two seasons Louis Theophanous who netted 51 goals during his period at the club recently joined Combined Counties Premier South side AFC Croydon Athletic. Another recent departure was club captain Danny Waldren who of course joined us here at Cray Valley (PM) and made his debut at Ashford United last week. One newcomer on the managerial side is Darren Anslow who recently left Hollands & Blair to join Jason Huntley's management team.

Beckenham will of course be keen to start climbing the table and put the difficult start to the season behind them. The Millers will know they have a tough battle ahead regardless of their visitors current league position.

As for the Millers this will be the second game of Kiki Oshilaja's two match suspension. Manager Steve McKimm will be looking to continue his side’s unbeaten run in the League. He may look to make full use of his squad with games coming thick and fast now as they make up lost games following the cup runs. As stated at the outset it promises to be a fiesty but entertaining affair. Hope to see you there!
