THE BRIDGES RECENT HISTORY
After sixty years competing in the Sussex County League, Three Bridges joined the Isthmian ranks in 2012 after being promoted as Champions and have retained their position despite relegation in 2016/17 – winning promotion as runners-up in the Southern Combination League the following season. Last season they finished in 15th place.
IT’S A FACT
Three Bridges, at first a tiny hamlet, began to grow with the coming of the London and Brighton Railway in 1841. Despite beliefs to the contrary, the village was named, not after rail bridges, but after three much older crossings over streams in the area (River Mole tributaries).
THIS SEASON
The Bridges under manager Jamie Crellin now in his third season at the helm made a terrific start to the season and following victory against East Grinstead Town on the 16th December they sat in 2nd place. However just one victory in their seven games since, a 3-2 home win versus Chichester City, has seen them slip a little and going into this game they currently sit in 8th place on 37 points from 23 games. On Saturday they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Sheppey United. Back in November they scored six twice in a week at home beating Sheppey United 6-0 and Erith & Belvedere 6-1. Top Goalscorer this season in all competitions is Noel Leighton on 20 followed by Ibrahim Jalloh with 16 and Kevin Rivera on 11.
THE MILLERS
The Millers top goalscorers in all competitions this season are Kyrell Lisbie 21, Adam Coombes 13, Freddie Parker 12 and following his stunning strike on Saturday in the 1-0 win against Mertsham, Matthew Vigor on 10.
Last season's visit to Jubilee Walk ended in a 2-2 draw after the Bridges led twice but a Hassan Ibrahiym penalty and a Mitch Nelson overhead kick secured the point.
With the Millers looking to make up ground, with this one of their games in hand over league leaders Ramsgate and the Bridges, of course, having different ideas it promises to be compelling watching. Hope to see you there!
