PITCHING-IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
AVELEY 3 CRAY VALLEY (PM) 0 - 24 JAN 2026 - ATT 403
Goals: A - Nwabueze 2, Aromolaran 5, Muldoon 83

Valley fell to their sixth consecutive league defeat to remain in the bottom four as Aveley moved into second place with a 3-0 win at Parkside in the battle of the Millers. The game played in windy conditions was effectively won in the opening five minutes with Matt Johnson causing problems with his long throw into the box. In the first minute Fumnaya Shomotun came to the visitors rescue clearing Toby Aromolaran's effort off the line. A minute later though Aveley did take the lead, the long throw found its way to Ryan Henshaw whose effort hit the post and fell to Jesse Nwabueze who fired home from close range. That lead was doubled in the fifth minute, Chris Harris flicking on into the path of Aromolaran to score.

Valley slowly fought back and enjoyed periods of possession without really threatening, systematic of an attack that has now only scored once in the last six games. In the second half Aveley had an opportunity to score immediately but Harry Haysom missed the target. In the 71st minute goalkeeper Taite Holtam on debut was penalised for a foul on Harris as he attempted to punch the ball clear but made amends with an excellent save from the resulting penalty, diving to his right to push away Nwabueze's spot kick and was on hand as the shot in the aftermath struck the outside of his near post.

Valley continued to push forward and shortly after the penalty save there was a half chance for Rowan Liburd but his shot from the edge of the box was well over the top. in the 83rd minute a corner kick was helped on at the near post and an unmarked Oliver Muldoon headed home close in at the far post to make it three. In added time Valley captain Tom Beere saw a cracking shot from just outside the box crash against the cross bar and back into the keepers arms to deny him.

Two home games coming up at the Artic Stadium, next Saturday at home to Cheshunt and the following Tuesday Welling United are the visitors. Steve McKimm and his team will be looking to turn their recent fortunes around.
