PITCHING-IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE SOUTH EAST DIVISION
HORLEY TOWN 0 CRAY VALLEY (PM) 3 - SAT 17 OCT 2026 - ATT 142
Goals: CV - Kirby 46, 79, Dickson 76
Three second half goals helped secure the three points for the Millers and was the perfect present for manager Kevin Lisbie who celebrated his birthday today. A cagey first half with just a few half chances at either end finished goalless. However it took just 30 seconds after the interval for the visitors to open the scoring through Jack Kirby, his first for the club, whose low drive back across the keeper from an acute angle found the back of the net inside the far post.
Cray Valley were now in the ascendency and Freddie Parker forced the Horley keeper Theo Bromley to make an excellent save. Shortly after Valley hit the post twice in five seconds but the ball stayed out and just after the hour mark both Chris Dickson and Kirby went close as they looked to increase the lead. That moment finally came in the 76th minute and it was Dickson, his 300th career league goal, calmly finishing after receiving substitute Bailee Cain's through ball. Three minutes later Kirby added his second and Valley's third, a cool finish when put through one on one to complete the scoring.
The Millers will be hoping that this third league win of the season will be a springboard to start to climb the table and are back in action on Tuesday evening when they visit Punjab United.

Horley Town 0 - 3 Cray Valley PM
Isthmian South East Division
This fixture saw 2 sides both looking to climb the table a little and earn a little breathing space from the drop zone and it was the visitors from SE9 who achieved this with a dominant second half display to give the gaffer Kevin Lisbie a delightful birthday present
This season is Horley's first ever at this level, and the facilities at the ground are testament to this ; there isn't much in the way of terracing ( covered or otherwise ) and food selection is basic ( but satisfactory ) but the modern clubhouse is half decent. Those imbibing alcoholic beverages weren't too impressed with seemingly flat lagers on tap but as yours truly was driving and on the teas and coffees today I dodged that bullet !!! Must also be said the ladies in our midst weren't overly impressed with the lavatory inventory either ...... one cubicle out of action and the other wouldn't flush ......... so definitely some room for improvement there
The match itself proved to be very much a game of 2 halves ...... the first was entertaining yet frustrating ; some plentiful passing football on display from both sides yet promising moves kept breaking down with misplaced passes. As the minutes ticked away the visitors did seem to have settled better and were applying more pressure even if we weren't testing the 'keeper enough but one couldn't help notice that the hosts were resorting to slightly more desperate defending and on more than one occasion a desperate clearance would go sky high ; as if inspired by the nearby contingent of Boeings and Airbuses taking off from nearby Gatwick. The best chance of the first half fell to Chris Dickson when a rebound fell to him in space and he had time to pick his spot and shoot ...... but the ball decided to impersonate the latest easyjet departure to magaluf and just kept on rising and sailed up and over the crossbar and out of the ground . . .
It did feel overall as though neither side had got out of 3rd gear in that first 45 minutes
As soon as the second half got underway, it became clear that the Millers had bypassed 4th and dropped straight into 5th with the gas pedal firmly to the floor as Jack Kirby put us in front with a goal I didn't see as I was still putting my jacket and scarf on in the clubhouse !!!
But I was still to be treated to plenty of entertainment, as the men in Cream were hungry for a second and there were 3 seperate episodes of goalmouth pinball right in front of those of us behind the goal we were attacking to start to believe that there was some sort of forcefield activated to somehow stop us getting that second goal. The post was Horley's saviour on at least 2 occasions
The hosts briefly came back into the game with a few chances of their own, but on the 76th minute arguably the decisive moment of the game arrived as Chris Dickson raced clear to slot past the 'keeper to joyous scenes ; it was his 300th goal in football and we really felt now that the game was ours. The Gaffer may have got a birthday card or 2 this afternoon .... but Chris Dickson got a yellow card ........ presumably for removing his top to reveal a shirt celebrating his landmark achievement.
3 minutes later our hopes of a morale boosting win were confirmed as Jack Kirby raced onto a through ball over the top and with a 1-on-1 with the 'keeper made no mistake to find the bottom corner and add a nice little gloss onto the scoreline. If Dicko's goal hadn't killed the contest, that one definitely did
The rest of the game was played out without further event of note and fans of the Millers wended their way towards the exits cautiously optimistic that things are starting to gel for us and looking forward to future fixtures with greater zeal. This was a good team performance and the lads were fully deserving of the win and the scoreline.
Come on Yoouuuuu Millers !!!!
