BIG MATCH PREVIEW
CRAY VALLEY (PM) v CORINTHIAN
30 AUG 2021
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE – SOUTH EAST DIVISION
BY Richard J Green
Bank Holiday Monday sees The Millers resume rivalry with Kent based Corinthian, following their intense struggle for SCEFL supremacy in 2019.
With Valley homing in on a place at Wembley in the FA Vase Final, few will forget their pursuit of Corinthian and Fisher in the league – the balance finally swinging in The Millers favour as the final whistle sounded on the penultimate round of fixtures.

While Cray have been looking to establish themselves in the Isthmian League having been promoted as Champions, The Hoops reached the semi-finals of the FA Vase last season, eventually losing 4–3 on penalties to Hebburn Town after a 2–2 draw.
Earlier in the summer, Corinthian were themselves elevated - based on their performances over the two previous seasons which had been abandoned due to the Covid pandemic.
Having been initially established by Ron Billings Sr in 1972 as a youth team for eight and nine year olds, based in Hartley, near Sevenoaks.
Corinthian made their home at the Billings family owned Gay Dawn Farm which has since further developed into a multi-sports complex, and joined the (then named) Kent League in 2009 where they had remained until this season.
A 90th minute winner from Luke Tanner took The Hoops to an impressive opening day league win at Hythe Town, while a trip to Combined Counties League outfit Badshot Lea saw progress in the FA Cup last Saturday – Corinthian winning 4-2.
Previous league meetings show The Millers to hold the most slender of advantages, while the Club’s only previous Cup meeting saw The Hoops hold sway in an extra time SCEFL Challenge Cup thriller in 2019.
With no further home fixtures as yet planned until mid-September, Kevin Watson and his management team will be eager to put three more points on the board in the fledgling league table and look forward to your valued support
