After draws in their last two league games, Kevin Watson’s title chasing Millers face another top of the table rival on Saturday as fifth placed Herne Bay make the journey to Eltham.
Bay have been up among the leading pack since the start of the season, prevailing in nine of their 14 league games - with three wins coming away from their Winch’s Field headquarters - and boasting a defensive record bettered only by league leaders Ashford United.
Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Whitehawk was secured by two goals from midfielder Bradley Schafer on his return to a Club he served with distinction before short spells with Sevenoaks Town and Hythe Town during the last two disrupted seasons.
Leading the goal charts for Bay is long serving Zak Ansah with 11, while manager Ben Smith needs no introduction to Millers fans having been in the Canterbury City dugout when we famously secured our place in the 2019 FA Vase Final.
Since winning promotion from the Kent League in 2011/12, Bay have yet to feature in the race for promotion, but seem set to make a sustained challenge this season.
For the hosts, Watson will be hopeful that those carrying knocks from last week’s game at Ramsgate will have benefitted from missing the midweek trip to Margate in the Kent Senior Cup, as the Club say farewell to Goalkeeping Coach Craig Gibson.
