League leaders Hastings United visit the Artic Stadium on Saturday as Valley look to get back to winning ways following two consecutive league defeats.
Losses to fellow promotion contenders Ashford United and mid-table Three Bridges has seen Kevin Watson’s side slip to fourth place in the league – 12 points behind Hastings with just 8 matches remaining.
When the teams met at The TGS Pilot Field in November, Ade Adeyemo’s injury time winner saw The Millers to victory in Gary Elphick’s first match in charge of The U’s – a win that put table topping Valley 13 points clear of our opponents.
Since that day however, Elphick has made several additions to a squad that has amassed 49 points out of a possible 57 – winning their last six matches since tasting defeat at Burgess Hill in January – including strikers Danny Parish and Ismaila Diallo from Welling United and Lancing respectively, and former Leatherhead defender Tommy Cooney.
Leading the way in front of goal for Hastings is striker Ben Pope with 15 league goals this season, while a miserly defence has conceded just 12 goals in the 19 matches since our victory.
Two former Millers who will be returning with The U’s will be winger Dave Martin who had a short spell with us, and Sam Hasler who scored three times in four appearances for Valley last season.
With matches against fellow promotion hopefuls Haywards Heath Town, Herne Bay and Ramsgate to follow, Valley will need to arrest the recent slide in this eagerly awaited contest.
