LONDON SENIOR CUP PREVIEW
TOWER HAMLETS v CRAY VALLEY (PM)
20TH OCT 2021
LONDON SENIOR CUP (sponsored by Veo) - 1ST ROUND
By Richard J Green
Valley return to cup action on Wednesday evening with a trip to face Step 5 opponents Tower Hamlets at their home at Phoenix Sports Club.
It’s a return to action in a competition where The Millers have enjoyed recent success – becoming the first Step 5 Club to win the Cup in 2016/17, and beaten semi-finalists at AFC Wimbledon last season.
Hamlets - formed as Bethnal Green United in 2000 - have enjoyed steady progress and are currently playing at the highest level in their short history.
After a move from the Essex Senior League in the summer, defeat against fellow strugglers Crowborough Athletic on Saturday leaves the Club occupying bottom position in the SCEFL with just four points from 13 matches, and on the back of a run of six consecutive defeats
Hamlets, under the Chairmanship of founder Mohammed Nural Hoque, do however harbour ambitions of competing at Isthmian League level in the near future.
With the point gained against Chichester City at the weekend elevating his side to the top of the Isthmian League SE Division, Valley manager Kevin Watson may use the fixture to give some of the Club’s younger players a taste of senior football as he looks to strengthen his first team squad.
