BIG MATCH PREVIEW
CRAY VALLEY (PM) v FELIXSTOWE & WALTON UNITED
25th JAN 2022
VELOCITY CUP – 3rd ROUND
By Richard J Green
In-form Felixstowe & Walton United visit the Artic Stadium on Tuesday with progress in the Velocity Cup at stake.
With Premier Division clubs entering the competition at this stage, the road to the Final at Aveley’s Parkside Stadium in April now comes into focus with 16 clubs entering the 4th round draw.
The Seasiders represent Valley’s third opponents from the Isthmian League North Division in this season’s competition, having seen off Hullbridge Sports and AFC Sudbury in previous rounds.
Currently positioned in mid-table, the Seasiders come into the game on the back of six wins – the most recent coming on Saturday when late goals from Samuel Nunn and Henry Barley earned a 2-1 win over Hullbridge Sports. The signing of attacking wide man Jesse Nwabueze on a one month loan from Ipswich Town on Friday comes as an indication of the Club’s ambition to figure in the promotion picture later in the season.
Felixstowe Town initially amalgamated with Walton United in 1947, before Walton United reformed and played under their own name before “re-amalgamation” followed in 2000.
Our visitors are currently engaged in their fourth season in the Isthmian League following promotion from the Essex Senior League in 2017/18 – like Valley, the highest level in the Club’s history.
Following Saturday’s frustrating draw with East Grinstead Town, Valley will be eager to return to winning ways in their last quest for knockout silverware this season.
Should scores be level after 90 minutes the match will be decided on penalties.
