FIRST TEAM
At a glance:
2018-19 season was our centenary and the most successful in our history. If Carlsberg did seasons it would probably look like this one. Not only did we become SCEFL champions after an exciting run-in to the title (which was only decided on the last day) overtaking Corinthians to claim the honors by a single point, we enjoyed a fabulous run to the FA Vase final. Kevin Watson walked the team out at Wembley to tremendous support, eventually losing 1-3 in extra time to Chertsey Town after hitting the bar in the last minute of the 90! It was a day no one connected with our club will ever forget. We also did well in the FA Cup, eventually going out in the 2nd Qualifying Round to Oxford City. Congratulations to Kevin and his backroom staff, together of course with the terrific squad of players that took us on our journey. Thanks also to our supporters, who deserved their 'Day in the sun'!

For the first the first time in our 100 year history we will be playing at step 4 next season in the Isthmian League South East Division. Surprisingly we started the season slowly with a defeat and a draw coming before Kevin Lisbie’s 4 goals in 18 minutes having trailed 2-0 at half time kickstarted the campaign at Lordswood. After an average November and December 2019 began with 12 consecutives wins before finally coming unstuck at Star Meadow against Hollands & Blair. That proved to be a mere hiccup though as 7 further consecutive wins got us over the line. The final day we travelled to Salters Lane to play Canterbury City, whom we had beat in the Vase Semi Final, needing to win to finish one point ahead of Corinthian. It was a tense affair and goalless until Babalola, on his birthday, struck in the 76th minute to put us ahead and then Gavin Tomlin made sure of victory with a second goal on 85 minutes. With the final whistle celebrations never seen before began. COYM

Traditionally the SCEFL charity season opener is played for between the League and Cup winners. However with last seasons winners declining the invitation the winners of the Respect Award for both the Premier Division Cray Valley and the First Division Phoenix Sports Reserves were invited instead. Not the club's finest moment as unbeknown to many an entire young development side was fielded. Two down by half time they eventually lost 5-0.

The Millers opening league game at the Mayfield Stadium was played on a Tuesday evening in heavy rain, a flash of lightning just before the end of the game adding to the drama. A close encounter with neither team able to fashion many clear cut chances. The defences were on top and some robust but fair challenges made. The only goal of the game came in the 80th minute. Nathan Green's long throw was launched into the area and the ball found it's way into the net to break the deadlock, substitute Bankola Koroma attributed as the goalscorer for the hosts to secure the points.

After an opening day League defeat at AFC Croydon Athletic, the Millers bounced back with this FA Cup victory. Denzel Gayle opened the scoring against our Southern Combination South Division opponents after just 4 minutes. Anthony Edgar increased the advantage after 38 minutes before Gayle struck again to seemingly put the result beyond doubt. But Eastbourne pulled a goal back seconds before the interval before adding a second after 67 minutes to set up a nervy final 20 minutes or so. But the Millers held on to set up a Preliminary Round tie at home to Ashford Town (Middx).

Cemil Tumkaya had given the Millers the lead in the 20th minute but Punjab hit back with Simon Cuthbert scoring two goals in two minutes (35,37) to lead at the interval. Francis Babalola equalised five minutes after the re-start and Kevin Lisbie with a double (57, 64) gave the Millers the upper hand as they lead 4-2. Newly promoted Punjab though had other ideas and two goals in the final ten minutes through Kieran Simms 82 minutes and Joe Loft in the 90th minute earned them a share of the points.

Going into the game with only one point from their opening two league games, Cray found themselves two goals behind at half time at Martyn Grove as Jordan Wells and Ricky Gundry put the Lords in a commanding position. But striker Kevin Lisbie who arrived late for the warm up, having missed his pick up waiting on the wrong side of the roundabout, soon turned things around as he scored three times in 7 second half minutes (50,54,57) to completely turn this match around. Lisbie added his and the Millers fourth goal after 68 minutes before substitute Ryan Flack made the game safe, seconds after coming on from the bench. Caine Smith scored a third for the home side after 76 minutes but the Millers held out for, in the end, a comfortable win.

The Millers reached the First Qualifying Round for only the second time in six years playing in the competition after an impressive 4-1 win on a rainy day at Badgers. Cray Valley opened the scoring with their first attempt after nine minutes. Ryan Flack slipped a ball through, he received a lucky deflection and the ball flashed into Joe N'Guessan's path and keeper Tyler Tobin went to ground too early and the striker slotted his first time right-footed shot sweetly into the bottom far corner from 16 yards on the angle.
Cray Valley doubled their lead on 37 minutes as kevin lisbie fed the ball into Flack, who split open Dilloway (left back) and centre half Bowers to put Denzel Gayle through on goal and he slotted the ball across and underneath the keeper from 15 yards.
Cray Valley raced into a 3-0 lead on 59 minutes as N'Guessan slipped a ball through the heart of the Ashford defence to put Lisbie through on goal. His pace easily took him padt last defender Baigens and showed composure to dummy the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net from 10 yards.
3 minutes later Ashford rallied and Cotter fed Lockhart-Adams who cut past substitute Tommy Osborne and he curled the ball over the stretching Walker and Wilson nipped in front of Flack at the back post to slide the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.
The Millers sealed their victory with their fourth goal five minutes from time as substitute right wing-back Nathan Palmer released Gayle down the right and he cut the ball back from inside the channel to Lisbie to sweep a first time shot over the keeper's right shoulder from 25 yards.

The Millers came quickly out of the traps at the Erith Stadium as Denzel Gayle fired the Millers in from after only 8 minutes and from there, they never looked back. Kevin Lisbie increased the Millers advantage after 38 minutes before Anthony Edgar made the game safe, just past the hour mark. Jack Duffy pulled one back for the Dockers with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Millers are now in 4th position in the league table with 10 points from 5 matches and 3 points behind early pace setters Chatham Town.

The scoreline looks more comfortable than the game actually was but Francis Babalola put the Millers in front of a closely fought contest, just seconds before the break. Anthony Edgar increased the Millers lead with 15 minutes remaining before substitute Denzel Gayle struck the Millers third, just two minutes after replacing Babalola. Gayle then added his second, 10 minutes later to ensure the Millers kept the pressure on the top three in the table.

Just two days after putting 7 past Hollands & Blair, the Millers, winners and runners up in the two previous London Senior Cup Finals, went out at the first stage in this season's competition as Alex Nelson and Steadman Callender gave the home side a comfortable lead at the break. Substitute Cemil Tumkaya sparked a late rally for the Millers with a goal inside the final ten minutes, but it proved too little too late for Kevin Watson's side. Next up for the Millers though, an FA Vase trip to St Panteleimon.

Joe N'Guessan adds his second and the Millers third.

After hitting 9 past Rusthall and losing 2-3 at home to Corinthian the Millers headed to Sheppey looking to bounce back and that they did, in some style. Kevin Lisbie opened the scoring from the penalty spot as Anthony Edgar was tripped in the area after 10 minutes before Lisbie thought he'd scored again moments late but that was ruled out for offside. Joe N'Guessan did add a second after 31 minutes, slipping the ball under the keeper from Edgar's precise through ball.N'Guessan then hit the crossbar with a looping shot just before the break but he did grab his second of the afternoon on the hour mark, collecting Liam Hickey's pass over the top, rounding the keeper and slotting home from close range. The ites then rallied but only had a Chris Edwards strike, 5 minutes from time, to show for their efforts.

After these two sides drew 2-2 in the League Cup a month earlier (the Millers winning 3-1 on penalties) the two teams couldn't be separated in this Kent Senior Trophy tie. Malik Ouani put the visitors in front after 38 minutes but Nathan Palmer pulled the Millers level, 11 minutes into the second half. Bryan Zepo restored the Dalers advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining and it wasn't until the 90th minute that Francis Babalola levelled things up to send the tie to extra time. Sam Fitzgerald received a second yellow with seconds remaining as the Dalers held on to take the tie to penalties. Osborne and Edgar converted the first two Millers penalties, as Andy Constable hit a post with the Dalers first kick. But after N'Guessan saw his kick saved, Babalola skyed his over the brand White slotted home, Palmer saw his kick saved to leave Elyon Marshall-Katung to put the 12th kick of the night beyond Walker to seal the Dalers passage through.

A week after completing an emphatic 4-0 win over Sheppey in the FA Vase, the wheels came slightly off the promotion train as Deal Town stunned a sparse home "crowd" in a topsy-survey match at Badgers. Billy Munday put the visitors ahead inside the first minute before Joe N'Guessan levelled things up, 20 minutes later. But Ben Chapman sent the visitors into the break with a slim advantage which was cancelled out by Anthony Edgar's strike after 76 minutes. While the Millers were still celebrating their second equaliser though, Munday added his second, just seconds later, to dent the Millers promotion push.

The Wells took the lead right on half time with Perry Spackman heading home at the far post from a cross in on the right from Williams. 1-0 Anthony Edgar then equalised for The Millers three minutes into the second half, collecting the ball on the right before cutting inside his marker and driving a shot beyond the dive of the home keeper. 1-1 The home side much the happier with a point in a match played in driving rain throughout. Both sides had chances to trouble the scorers with the Wells keeper the busier of the two but in all fairness, a draw was probably the right result on the day!

The Millers were the only team to show any attacking intent as the visitors came with spoiling tactics on their mind. The Chats had five players cautioned in the match as they held the Millers at arms length while Jon Philbeam somehow evaded punishment for a cynical push into the fencing on Liam Hickey. But with seconds remaining in the match, Chats substitute Michael Hagan released the shackles and planted a shot beyond Andy Walker to ensure the points went back to Medway.

Goalscorer Gavin Tomlin in action
Although they produced some creditable resistance the Hoops were eventually undone by the most potent attacking force in the SCEFL Premier Division. Deal were able to frustrate Cray for nearly 70 minutes but the Hoops offered little in the way of an attacking threat themselves and Millers keeper Andy Walker was only called into action in the dying minutes when he turned Sam Wilson's strike away for corner. The breakthrough eventually came in the 68th minute as the Millers new signing Gavin Tomlin who netted on his debut 4 days earlier in a 3-0 win over Lordswood reacted quickest in a goalmouth scramble to volley past james Tonkin from close range. The Hoops keeper had little chance of stopping that effort and the same applied to Cray's second goal seven minutes later when a corner from Anthony Edgar flipped off the head of Liam Hark into his own net.

Bottom of the table Rusthall frustrated the Millers with keeper Aaron McGuigan, signed on the morning of the fixture, making a string of fine saves. And the visitors could have taken the lead after 77 minutes as they were awarded a penalty. But Andy Walker blocked Charlie Clover's spot kick low down to his right, to keep the scores level. Then with six minutes remaining McGuigan blocked Chris Edwards powerful low drive but could do little to prevent Gavin Tomlin from slotting home the rebound.

Full Time from Badgers
Two second half goals from Edgar and Edwards within seven minutes of Crowborough taking the the lead against the run of play in the 59th minute earned all three points for The Millers. Thus maintaining their challenge at the top of the table although wins for Corinthian, Fisher and Chatham leaves the league table as it was. This exciting and nerve-wrecking SCEFL title race continues.
Team News: Manager Kevin Watson makes just one change from the team that started against Erith Town as Andy Walker returns in goal from injury.
First half and The Millers were well on top but unable to break through. The Crows keeper making a number of excellent save. 0-0
Second half and a mad seven minute period saw The Crows take the lead on 59 minutes with Anthony Edgar equalising two minutes later and Chris Edwards scoring what proved to be the winner in the 66th minute, his shot nestling in the corner of the net. Full Time 2-1
Next up for The Millers is a short journey down the A2 to visit the EliteVenue in Gravesend to play a tricky fixture against Punjab United who will be desperate for the points as they battle to pull clear of the relegation places at the bottom of the table.

If Carlsberg did football seasons then The Millers 100th season would appear to be shaping up to be a contender for selection. Todays results both here at Badgers and over at Fisher which saw them beat Corinthian 2-0 means The Millers go top of the SCEFL Premier Division for the first time ever.
The defining final league game of the season for The Millers will see them travel to Salters Lane to see them take on Canterbury City, where victory will guarantee them winning the title and the promotion that goes with it.
However no one at the club is taking anything for granted and Canterbury City have something to prove after their narrow two legged semi final defeat to The Millers in the FA Vase last month. Corinthian take on Bearsted at home and will be ready to pounce should The Millers fail to achieve victory.
Todays game saw a dominant The Millers cruise to victory epitomised by a quality finish for the fifth by Anthony Edgar scoring his 30th goal of the season, not a bad return for a midfielder. It was The Millers 106th league goal of the season having now played 37 games. Earlier Brad Potter, having only scored once this season at K Sports scored twice in this match, both headers.
Tomlin opened the scoring and Gayle added a third to give The Millers a 3-0 half time lead, extended to five by the end.
Walker was rarely troubled but testament to his concentration when he was called upon late on, he was equal to it producing an excellent save diving to tip the ball around the post and away for a corner.
With full time approaching and news filtering through of the Fisher scoreline, Badgers was indeed a happy place. Full Time 5-0.
The seasons defining moment will come next Saturday and let's not forget a little game at Wembley on the 19th May!

The Millers are Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division Champions!

A tense finish to the season, with Corinthian winning at home to Bearsted, the Millers knew nothing less than victory would do. The deadlock was finally broken in the 76th minute when Francis Babalola, on his birthday, put the Millers ahead. "...Liam Hickey hit a long ball over the top of Hadler and Sayer and Delo failed to clear his lines and as the ball dropped from the sky Babalola stuck out a leg to shin the ball, bouncing into an empty goal from 12-yards..." Gavin Tomlin added a second with five minutes remaining to ease the nerves and send the visitors into ecstasy. Dreams do come true!
