Our Director of Youth Football Steve Chapman reports on our Cray Valley U16 Girls victory last Saturday in the Junior Premier League - Warriors.

U16s earn first win of the Season with gritty win over AFC Wimbledon Pathway

Following their promotion last season, our outstanding, championship-winning Under-15s side earned their first win of the season as U16's with a hard-fought and well-earned victory against a resilient AFC Wimbledon team.

Valley asserted early dominance, controlling large portions of the opening stages. However, despite their strong start, they were unable to capitalise on several promising opportunities. The momentum shifted in the second quarter, with the visitors growing into the game, pressing higher, and limiting Valley's attacking threat.

Demonstrating their adaptability and determination to succeed at a higher level, our players responded impressively to tactical adjustments made in the third quarter. Their perseverance was rewarded when Amelia Boyle netted the decisive goal with a composed finish, securing all three points for the home side. Shortly after the breakthrough, Valley nearly doubled their lead, only to be denied by an excellent save from the Wimbledon goalkeeper.

Nonetheless, the team held firm to see out a deserved first win.

This was the Cray Valley Girls third game in the cup group stage following defeats to Millwall Girls Academy and Cray Wanderers. This Saturday they face Charlton Athletic Girls U15 in their final group game to take place at Sparrows Lane, the Charlton Athletic training ground.

Under the management of Elisha Newell and Allen O'Shaughnessy the girls flourished last season and will look to continue that progress this season. Promotion has seen them placed in a higher division and everyone will be all too aware of the challenges ahead. They will face the likes of Charlton Athletic, Millwall, West Ham, Ipswich Town , Hashtag United, Cray Wanderers and She Can Play Panthers. No easy games there for sure. We wish them well.
