BIG MATCH PREVIEW
GLEBE v CRAY VALLEY (PM)
27 APRIL 2021
LONDON SENIOR CUP (sponsored by Sportsguard) 2nd ROUND
By Richard J Green
One hundred and forty three days after Hassan Ibrahiym’s late, late winner saw The Millers defeat Corinthian-Casuals in the first round, Kevin Watson’s charges travel to Glebe looking for further progress in the London Senior Cup.
For their part, Gary Alexander’s SCEFL Premier side qualified for the second round courtesy of first round opponents Harrow Borough’s decision to withdraw from this season’s competition.
Established by Rocky McMillan as the “Glebe Globetrotters” in 1995, the Chislehurst based outfit first met Cray Valley in an FA Vase 1st qualifying round tie in 2015/16 – Ryan Golding’s 76th minute strike securing victory for Glebe against their higher ranked opponents at The Artic Stadium.
It was two years later that the fixture dubbed as the “Aviva 160 derby” next took place – Valley securing full league points in the SCEFL with a 3-0 victory at home, followed by a 2-1 success at Foxbury. We also secured the “double” the following season – 2-1 at home and 5-3 away.
With potential 3rd round opponents Brentford B also withdrawing from the Cup, assistant manager Tommy Osborne sees the competition as a chance to finish with some silverware following a difficult season.
“The game gives us a good opportunity to see the lads after a long break. The last game we played in this competition was a really entertaining game and a decent team performance against a team from the league above. We certainly don’t want to throw that result away and we will be trying to progress against a decent team in Glebe. We’re confident all the lads have kept themselves ticking over, as I’m sure they will recognise this as an opportunity for the Club to potentially go far in this competition.”
Kick-off at Foxbury is at 7.30pm.
With Government guidelines currently advising against admission to supporters, Millers fans can keep up to date with our progress on the Club’s Twitter account - https://twitter.com/CrayValleyPM
