Match Preview:
National South Ebbsfleet United visit the Artic Stadium for this second round Kent Senior Cup tie. It is the first competitive meeting between the two sides although they did meet in a pre-season friendly two years ago, The Fleet coming out on top 5-1.
The Kent Senior Cup was first contested back in 1888/89 with Chatham the winners. There was a four year break 1914-1918 owing to the first world war and since then there have only been two seasons when it hasn’t been awarded, season 1940/41 at the start of the second world war and 2020/21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Maidstone United have won the cup on the most occasions, 19 in total. The current holders are Welling United. Ebbsfleet United / Gravesend & Northfleet have been victorious on 8 occasions the last being 2013/14. This is the 7th Kent Senior Cup campaign for Cray Valley (PM), yet to go beyond the quarter-finals which they reached in 2022/23 losing 3-0 at Margate.
The county cups in recent times have often given clubs the opportunity to give younger players experience and this was the case for us in the first round at Ashford United. Two of our Kent Youth league U18’s Will Benedict and Theo Jeffrey coming off the bench and contributing to the 3-2 victory, Theo scoring the equaliser to make it 2-2 and Will making a vital interception at the back.
