The opening day of a new season always brings an added level of anticipated excitement in the build up to kick off. Pre-season confined to history and thoughts turn to what will happen at 3pm? Will dreams still be in tact come 5pm? Of course seasons aren't defined by the opening day result, many examples of an opening day defeat being followed by a fabulous season or indeed the reverse an opening day win followed by a long and difficult season. At 3pm though all Isthmian Premier Division clubs will start with a clean slate, full of anticipation and entering into an unknown and often unpredictable future. That is the beauty of football.

Saturday's game at the Artic Stadium sees the Millers host Carshalton Athletic, a team they have had the upper hand over in recent times. Last season saw the Millers triumph in both the home and away fixture and the season before progress in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy. The Millers only defeat was in season 2022/23 losing on penalties in the FA Trophy. The manager for the Robins that day was of course Steve McKimm.

Current manager Peter Adeniyi and his team will be keen to reverse their recent fortunes against the Millers and will be confident they can do so today at the Artic Stadium. Steve McKimm and his team will of course be keen not to let that happen. As always it promises to be compelling, hope to see you there.

Footnote: Some exciting new improvements off the field at the ground in the close season. Look out for our new scoreboard expected to be unveiled today (subject to us being able to work the technology). There is also a new club shop, outside bar and the newly named McDonalds Community Stand at the quaggy end. News of other new sponsors to follow in the coming weeks.
