Match Report by Aaron Flanagan

Cray Valley (PM) bounced back to form with an emphatic victory at promotion-chasing Dulwich Hamlet. First-half strikes from Liam Moore, Tom Beere and Ola Ogunwamide secured the Millers’ first three points in nine league outings.

Manager Steve McKimm stuck with on-loan winger Ogunwamide in the starting XI and it paid dividends barely 60 seconds into the match. He found space down the left wing and delivered a dangerous ball into the box which was met by the on-rushing Moore, who’s side-footed finish deflected off the body of Hamlet defender Michael Chambers to wrong-foot the goalkeeper and give Valley an early lead.

Early joy did turn to frustration just six minutes later, however. Luke Wanadio, one of the league’s top goalscorers, found space on the left flank and fired low past Shaun Peart-Rowley to restore parity. The Millers were forced to weather the storm for the following 15 minutes, as Hamlet pushed to go ahead, but a resilient defensive performance from Danny Waldren and Marvel Ekpiteta kept them at bay.

That hard work was rewarded when Kurtis Cumberbatch picked the pockets of a midfielder with a quick press and set Beere through one-on-one with goalkeeper Toby Bull, who was helpless after being rounded. It took just 30 seconds after the restart for the Millers to make it three as Rowan Liburd nicked the ball in the middle, setting Beere free to play in Isiah Harvey, who squared for Ogunwamide to cooly slot home his first goal in green.

Valley then took control of the game and were deserved leaders at the break, and as Hamlet failed to break down the hard-line defence, their confidence waned in the second half for the Millers to flourish. The counter attack was looking increasingly dangerous and the Millers were perhaps unlucky not to score more, with two free-kicks - one into the keepers hands and one that clipped the top of the bar - plus another close range effort all coming close before the Millers’ 3-1 win was confirmed.
