BATTLING MILLERS MAKE A POINT

The Millers produced a battling display which earned them a deserved vital point with a 1-1 draw at New Lodge against Billericay Town. It was a much improved performance with showed a greater level of intent and energy which Steve McKimm had prioritised following a disappointing display on Tuesday.

In team news youngsters Isaiah Harvey making his first league start and Liam Moore in only his second league start both equipped themselves well providing energy and youthful enthusiasm. There was also a debut for loan singing Ola Ogunwamide from Horsham and the Millers were given a further boost with club captain Tom Beere, returning from injury, fit enough to take a place on the bench after nearly 2 months out.

In an opening period with chances at a premium both sides defended well, Sam Donkin in the Town goal made a good save from Ogunwamide and the Millers in particular showing great application to put in a block when required including a timely tackle from Marvel Ekpiteta to thwart Freddie Hockey on the half hour. The hosts though took the lead in the 36th minute, Teddy Cullis finishing well to slot home Elliott Long's through ball.

The Millers started the second half positively and were rewarded when in the 67th minute when they were awarded penalty after Ryan Scott handled on the line to deny a certain goal and was shown a red card reducing them to ten men. After a delay while Town made a substitution Matty Vigor stepped up to equalise from the spot sending the keeper the wrong way.

The Millers were now in the ascendancy and Kurtis Cumberbatch struck a fine effort from distance but it was just over the top and Dan Ajakaiye had a couple of chances including one in added time but both times his shot was too high. Earlier with six minutes of normal time remaining Shaun Rowley in the Millers goal had produced a sensational save from substitute Alfie Cerulli's powerfully hit shot. It finished one a piece which overall was probably a fair result.
