A looping maybe wind assisted Chris Dickson header back across goal and into the bottom far corner in the 63rd minute earned Valley a much needed and deserved three points. It was a fully committed performance from all throughout achieving consecutive clean sheets and gave the Millers back to back wins for the first time since December.

Such was the team effort it is difficult to pick one player above another for man of the match, Prince Adegoke made a vital save early on, Alfie Newby was superb defending and attacking down the left flank, Manny Adebiyi and Hassan Ibrahiym both full of energy and running dominated the middle with veteran striker Dickson using every bit of his experience leading the line. All twelve players used on the day put in a shift and made a contribution.

Valley enjoyed the better of the opening half in the windy conditions with Rams manager Lee Martin forced into making a double substitution on 34 minutes to try and counter the dominance of the Millers early on. Makise Evans and Fumnaya Shomotun both had efforts on goal but it remained goal less going in at the interval.

Second half and it was the Rams who went close in the 58th minute TJ Jadama's shot appearing to deflect off Henry Lukombo and onto the underside of the cross bar and out. Two minutes later Marvel Ekpiteta made a vital interception / block in his own area to defend a threat. The decisive moment of the game followed shortly after at the other end with the Valley scoring the only goal of the game.

With eight minutes of normal time remaining the writer thought Valley had doubled the lead (missing the vital moment through celebrating too soon) to make the game safe, Shomotun de-possessed the defender raced into the box and unselfishly squared the ball to Dickson who looked to have the simplest of chances to slot the ball into an empty net from his position in the centre of the goal but somehow the keeper or maybe defender got back to get a block with a trailing leg and the ball went the wrong side of the post for a corner.

It meant a tense finish ensued but the visitors saw out the five minutes of added time without drama and complete their first and only double in the league this season having now defeated the Rams both home and away. Four to go and next up is the local derby against Cray Wanderers at the Artic Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.
