BIG MATCH PREVIEW
WHITSTABLE TOWN v CRAY VALLEY (PM)
2 OCT 2021
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE – SOUTH EAST DIVISION
By Richard J Green
The Isthmian League having given the “green light” to the resumption of fixtures this weekend following disruption to the nations fuel distribution, Kevin Watson’s Valley side return to action with a visit to the north coast of Kent on Saturday to face struggling Whitstable Town.
The Oystermen were shocked last Wednesday by the sudden resignation of Manager Lloyd Blackman following a start to the season that has seen them accrue only one point from their opening five league games – that coming from a 1-1 draw with VCD Athletic on their last outing.
Player Coach Ben Harding took a squad including five 17 year olds to Chichester City for an FA Trophy tie last Saturday – the hosts securing a comfortable 4-0 victory.
One face in the Whitstable line-up that will be familiar to Millers fans is midfielder Ryan Flack, who famously scored the winning goal in our FA Vase Semi Final First Leg victory in 2019, as well as playing a leading role in our SCEFL Championship success that same season.
An early FA Cup exit at Uxbridge, along with a lack of early season midweek fixtures, has seen The Millers play just seven matches since the season started back on 14th August – indeed our last game was two weeks ago, a 3-1 victory at Three Bridges keeping Watson’s men in touch with the early season pacesetters.
The intervening period has seen experienced defender Kalvin Morath-Gibbs move on to pastures new, while new recruit, former Leatherhead defender David Ompreon, could be in line to make his debut at The Belmont Ground.
With fuel issues still likely to cause travel difficulties, your support will as ever be much appreciated.
