BIG MATCH PREVIEW
CRAY VALLEY (PM) v SITTINGBOURNE
19th FEB 2022
PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE – SOUTH EAST DIVISION

Storm Eunice permitting, resurgent Valley continue their pursuit of leaders Hastings United against Sittingbourne on Saturday on the back of three consecutive wins.
After a five match winless run bookending the Christmas/New year period, Kevin Watson’s men are unbeaten in their last six matches, accruing 14 points in the process.
The importance of a hard earned victory at Chichester City last Saturday – courtesy of two second half goals from Hassan Ibrahiym – was amplified by the news coming through of stoppage time goals seeing fellow promotion chasers Ramsgate and Hastings to away wins – the latter coming at Sittingbourne.
Despite defender Nat Blanks completing the last 18 minutes of the match in Sussex, the Millers resources have been further stretched by the sight of Denzel Gayle limping off the pitch before the end of the game, while Alex Brefo and Raheem Sterling-Parker remain sidelined by injury.
After spending much of the season on the fringes of the race for the play-offs, The Brickies have struggled of late – winning just two of their seven matches since a single goal win against Sevenoaks Town on New Years Day – and currently stand in 10th place in the table.
Last week’s late defeat against Hastings will have been particularly galling since the visitors were reduced to 10 men shortly after half-time, while 11 goal leading scorer Johan Caney-Bryan continued a barren spell stretching back to the turn of the year.
The recent re-signing of imposing six foot seven inch centre back Lex Allen after a spell at Sheppey United has strengthened a defence breeched six times by the rampant Millers in the reverse fixture in October when Valley hit-man Marcel Barrington netted his first hat-trick in senior football.
