The Rams just missed out on promotion last season losing in the play off final on penalties to AFC Whyteleafe and will be looking to go one better this season. The Millers opening league game at the Mayfield Stadium was played on a Tuesday evening in heavy rain, a flash of lightning just before the end of the game adding to the drama. Originally scheduled for the preceding Saturday it was moved to the Tuesday evening due to Cray Valley's participation in the pre-season Roy Vinter Charity Shield.

A close encounter with neither team able to fashion many clear cut chances. The defences were on top and some robust but fair challenges made. The only goal of the game came in the 80th minute. Nathan Green's long throw was launched into the area and the ball found its way into the net to break the deadlock, substitute Bankola Koroma attributed as the goalscorer for the hosts to secure the points.

Cray Valley (PM) went on to win the SCEFL Premier Division that year earning promotion to the Isthmian South East and Step 4 for the first time.
