COOMBES SEALS THE DEAL AS VALLEY SHOOT DOWN THE RAVENS
DFDS KENT SENIOR CUP – 2nd ROUND
CRAY VALLEY (PM) 1 BROMLEY 0 - 22nd Nov 2022 - ATT 102
Goal: CV - Coombes 70
Bromley keeper Jordan Olds double save from Cray striker Riley Asaam
Adam Coombes slotted past Bromley keeper Jordan Olds in the 71st minute to earn Valley a place in the quarter finals of the County Cup for the first time on a chilly night at the Artic Stadium.
Facing a youthful, skilful Ravens side, Valley more than held their own against their full-time opponents – indeed having the best chance of an entertaining first half as Riley Asaam forced Olds into a magnificent double save to deny close range efforts on the half hour.
With debutant Vinnie Medhurst having a sound debut in the middle of the defence, Chris Lewington kept a third clean sheet in a week – denying Soul Kader twice in the early exchanges – providing a springboard for a series of attacks from the hosts.
And the crucial moment arrived shortly after speedy winger Denzel Gayle replaced skipper for the night Dan Bennett.
Showing a jet propelled burst of acceleration down the right, Gayle took several defenders out of the game before squaring the ball to Coombes in the middle of the visitors’ six yard box. As Coombes duly applied the finishing touch, Valley were left to look ahead to a third round tie early in the new year at the expense of their National League opponents.
