Ultimately a disappointing end to the season, just missing out on reaching the play offs. In a dramatic final couple of games, fortunes changed from despair to joy and back again. After losing at the Bauvill Stadium against champions Chatham Town 2-1 the situation was clear, wins were needed in the final two games at home to VCD Athletic and Sheppey United.

Against VCD Athletic a one goal lead at the interval was pegged back shortly after the re-start from the penalty spot. The score remained level until deep into added time when Dan Bennett scored the winner, his second, with virtually the last kick of the game. A mixture of joyous celebration and relief followed.

All was set up for the final game of the season at home to Sheppey United. If either side won they would guarantee themselves a play off spot. However a draw could prove to be of no use to either side with Hythe Town set to jump above and take the play off spot if they beat Haywards Heath Town. This is indeed what happened. The finale was dramatic though. Sheppey led by the only goal before the Millers turned the game on it's head, first with a Dan Bennett equaliser on 84 minutes and then took the lead on 90 minutes, an Ade Adeyemo strike from 25 yards drilled into the bottom corner to send the Millers players and supporters wild. Free entry on the day, helped by a good showing from Sheppey fans along with players and family from our own youth teams boosted the crowd to a ground record 787 beating the previous record of 663 against Canterbury City in the FA Vase Semi-Final in 2019. Their joy was short lived though as in the fourth minute of seven minutes of added time Sheppey United equalised and the final score of 2-2 proved heartbreaking for both sides.

The season certainly provided some highs and it was generally acknowledged that on their day the Millers were the best footballing side to watch. There were some terrific performances and goals along the way. to marvel at. The goal difference of +31 was the best in the league. The slightly indifferent start and the run of just one point in six matches around February proved the downfall in extending the season further. It all comes down to expectation and for now it feels disappointing but in years to come we may well look back on the wonderful memories the season has given from a really honest bunch of lads. Thank you to everyone involved.
